Data Protection Officer

The Data Protection Officer (hereinafter DPO) is a figure introduced by the General Data Protection Regulation 2016/679 | GDPR, published in the official European journal L. 119 on May 4,  2016.

The DPO, historically already present in some European legislations, is a professional who must have a corporate role (whether internal or external) with legal, computer, risk management and process analysis skills. His its main responsibility is to observe, evaluate and organize the management of the processing of personal data (and therefore their protection) within a company (both public and private), so that they are treated in compliance with European and national privacy regulations.

This subject is already known in the Anglo-Saxon world with the term of Chief Privacy Officer (CPO); Privacy officer, Data protection officer or data security officer.
